Winter Warm UP! Drive from The Greater Chamber's Education Committee is in full swing.

This drive will provide the area’s neediest students with badly needed winter clothing that they will otherwise go without. For just $10, one child will receive an appropriate sized sweatshirt, sweatpants, knit cap and winter gloves. All items purchased will be distributed to students in schools and area shelters in Prince William County. Last winter we were able to help over 500 children stay warm – with your help we can help even more this year. Simply click on the “Add to Basket” link below to get started.

OCTOBER WRAP UP
We were happy to announce the HGBA Money Mailer offer and sold out 2 flyers. Thanks!
It's not too early to start planning for Earth Day this Spring. Contact Jen Robinson.

Tim from Duvall Wheeler spoke about supporting CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. Bill Vaughn our least nervous speaker, County demographer and Economist and Financial Analyst for the Prince William County Finance Department joined us. He reviewed who we are, what we make, and trends. The hardest hit has been construction with a 40% decline in jobs. We came very close to a complete collapse, however, things are slowly now on the mend due in large part to the government stepping in.

Positive highlights included:
  - The Washington area unemployment is still one half the national rate.
  - Our income is 16th in the US and 4th in the Commonwealth
  - The CENSUS is coming - the CENSUS is coming. Fill it out. 200 billion is handed out. An accurate census will help VA get our share of funds.
