There is only one planet in our solar system that has air we can breathe.

Let's help keep it that way and Celebrate Earth Day 2009.

Principal founder of Earth Day, Senator Gaylord Nelson (June 4, 1916 – July 3, 2005) was not only an environmentalist but a small business advocate. The first Earth Day was held in 1970 and has since grown to an effort that includes billions of people worldwide.

Nelson left the Senate in 1981, and continued to fight for our planet while counselor of The Wilderness Society. His efforts involved many preservation issues, including elimination of logging subsidies, protection for our national parks, and expansion of the National Wilderness Preservation System. As a result of his efforts we have the Environmental Protection Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Safe Drinking Water Act.

HGBA is getting in on the act. We will be a sponsor for the
Rotary's Earth Day celebration. JOIN US for worldwide good.

A Word to the Wise When you Socialize.
Today with sites such as StumbleUpon, Twitter, Delicious, Facebook, RSS Feeds, Sphinn, Mix, Propeller, Newsline, Furl, Digg and more daily, can you really find an expert when you want your business to enter the Social Media sphere?

Yes and no. In Michael Gray's blog, he mentions studies that show it takes 10 years to grow an expert in any field. One thing most "experts" agree on, is everything is very new and changes daily. If you are thinking about getting in the discussion with your business, know that it is one of many strategies to integrate into the big picture. Sit down with your marketing people and lay out a strategy for content generation. Where should you be blogging or posting? What will you say and where are the people who want to hear it and talk about it? First get to know these environments and be realistic about the time you can devote to this. For instance, a blog with a recent post of 2005 will get ignored.

Websites were initially considered a "nice" addition to the business, who is really going to buy stuff online anyway? (Probably the same people who bought from catalogs to start.) Social Media is another cog in the messaging wheel, it is here to stay and will evolve.

Know that once you hit SUBMIT, it is out there forever. Deleting posts does not delete them from the Internet and they can resurface. So think before you tweet, avoid online arguments, and keep it real.
