Company Background
How long have you been in business, and why did you choose the business you’re in?
I started 1st Tee in October of 1996. There are two reasons why I started my business. First, I worked for a local company and participated in many golf tournaments representing the company. I saw an opportunity to make small adjustments to the tournaments and bring them to another level.
I settled on the idea and a short time later an attorney asked me to set up an event for his firm to get associates and clients together for a relaxing day on the course. I made arrangements with a local resort/golf course that provided a great venue for the event. The event went off without a hitch, and at the end of the event I received a check for my efforts; it was a surprise since a fee was never discussed.
How does your business serve the Haymarket-Gainesville community?
We offer opportunities to get your company noticed through our promotional products and golf and charity events.
Business Experiences
Please share one of the greatest moments you’ve experienced in your business.
After a golf event was completed, I was invited to join the foundation president to eat and relax. At the table were Art Monk, Charles Mann, Bobby Mitchell, Darrell Green, Brig Owens, and Joe Theisman. Being a Redskin fan all my life, these where the guys I admired and enjoyed watching play. It was truly a great way to complete a very long day.
What's the top business tips can you offer other business owners & professionals?
Listening to your clients’ ideas and the goals they hope to gain by hiring your company. Once you have understood their ideas, make a solid plan of action and establish a time line to reach those goals and objectives.
