Company Background
How long have you been at your current job, why did you choose your firm?
I have been with Peterson Management for five years.  I selected this company based on their reputation and their strong ties in the Metropolitan area.

How does your business serve the Haymarket-Gainesville community?
The Peterson Companies developed and manage the Virginia Gateway project located in Gainesville. In addition to the wide variety of goods and services available at the businesses within Virginia Gateway, we strive to provide programs and activities that the community will enjoy and participate in. Our Little Tots children’s program, festivals and tree lighting events are designed to provide family-friendly opportunities that bring the community together.

Business Experiences
Please share one of the greatest moments you’ve experienced in your business.
After being away from Virginia Gateway for a year and a half, I returned to the project this past August. I found the warm welcome I received from the merchants, businesses and the community to be very rewarding. Gainesville is an area with strong sense of community and unity, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

Have you had an experience with your business that you wish you could redo differently?
I was assigned to Virginia Gateway when I began working with The Peterson Companies.  After three years, an opportunity presented itself that realigned my responsibilities within the company, eliminating my involvement at Virginia Gateway. While I continued to develop professionally and contributed to the company in new ways, it was difficult losing contact with Virginia Gateway’s growth and evolution. I am excited to be involved in the project again, and to pick up where I left off.

What's the top business tips can you offer other business owners & professionals?
1. Listen to what people have to say.
2. Be on time.  (Everyone’s time is precious.)
3. Set realistic goals.

Working with HGBA
How have you been involved with HGBA?
Once I learned that I would be back at Virginia Gateway, I joined HGBA immediately.

For you, what is the primary benefit of being an HGBA member?
Virginia Gateway services this community; I feel it is important to be in tune with what the community is doing and what it needs.  This is a philosophy that is also shared by The Peterson Companies.  The HGBA provides a forum for active involvement and open communication for the community.

Just for Fun
If you could have a superpower, what would it be, and why?
That would be a hard choice to make.  It would be a toss up between being indestructible and having great speed.  I have a tendency to sustain injuries.  After dislocating my shoulder 7 times along with various other injuries, being indestructible would be great.  As for speed, I never have enough time to do all that I would like to.

Thanks Laura!
